Our Theatre Program's Tradition Runs Deep
For decades, the Hastings High School Program has involved dozens of students, faculty, and community members in the production of quality musical theater performances. We continue this tradition every year with the performance of a well-known, large-scale shows. Hastings Musical Theatre (HMT) offers students the chance to perform as actors, singers, and dancers on-stage, provide the instrumental music of the pit orchestra, act as backstage crew members, and aid in the multitude of offstage roles involving costumes, make up, prop and set building, and all of the other essential parts of producing a high-end production.
HMT has only grown since moving from our original stage at Central Auditorium, the historic and beautiful facility connected to Central Elementary, to the exquisite and modern Hastings Performing Arts Center complete with a fly curtain system, a full pit, large backstage, high definition camera system, an incredible lighting and sound system, 830 comfortable seats, beautiful lobby and ticket booth, balcony, wheelchair accessibility at all levels, ample backstage area, green room, dressing rooms, and staging areas for the performers as well as so much more.
For decades, HMT has offered students the chance to explore musical theater and act, sing, and dance on the big stage (click here for a look back at previous shows). The Hastings High School students involved perform on stage, in the orchestral pit, and backstage to make our productions run beautifully and smoothly. Our goal is to bring as close to professional quality production as we can manage to the high school stage.
